Conference: Communication, Culture and Community
This is the first international conference for teachers of English that is co-hosted: IATEFL and TESOL join efforts to bring to Chile speakers of international reputation.
The theme of the upcoming conference is the use of English in the modern world and its successful application inside and outside the language classroom; its contribution to the creation of community, expression in culture and its relationship to business opportunities amongst other things. In other words, we are looking not only at the means—the English language—but also its ends.
We think that this conference provides an outstanding opportunity to hear professionals of various backgrounds share their pertinent expertise. The conference will stand as a benchmark in Chile’s bicentennial year to show to what degree and with what impact society has succeeded in weaving the English language into its cultural and educational projects.
In line with the conference theme, this is the first international conference for teachers of English that is co-hosted: IATEFL and TESOL join efforts to bring to Chile speakers of international reputation. Both organizations call on their members and supporters to contribute to this occasion.
We encourage teachers and interested professionals to take a step in career development by participate with a presentation proposal. Presenting at an international conference has proven to be a rewarding experience.
While proposals on all aspects of language teaching and learning are welcome as always, this year’s focus calls especially for presentations and workshops on how English is used in the wider context. Here are some ideas: Successful Video Conferencing, Survival in a Bilingual Business Culture, How I Got Published, Creative Writing, So you think you can act? Etc.
In a crucial year for the country, the conference organizers seek to foster community, to facilitate smooth communication, and to encourage shared expressions of the various cultures.
